Today, as temperatures hit 100 degrees, The Salvation Army of North Texas opened 10 cooling and hydration stations in Dallas, Denton, Collin, Ellis and Tarrant counties—designed to help vulnerable neighbors with water, shelter, food and utility support.
The stations follow local rules and will operate when forecasts predict high heat for two or more days.

County officials unanimously voted on July 28 to place on the November 4 ballot a proposal to create an emergency services district for rural areas facing loss of fire protection.
If approved, the new property tax—capped at 10 cents per $100 of property value—could raise up to $9.6 million and may leave some areas with a temporary gap in services.
Plano officials discussed changes to zoning and building codes today to comply with new Texas laws.
The adjustments, driven by Senate Bills (15, 840 and 2477), will affect multifamily and single-family developments in nonresidential zones.

Children in Plano face serious heat risks because they heat up fast and might not see early signs of illness, Dr. Troy Smurawa from Children’s Health explained.
He advised parents to plan outdoor time in the cooler hours and keep kids hydrated — their bodies heat up quickly — and let them slowly get used to the heat — this gradual start can help prevent dangerous illness.
North Texans are facing rising heat-related health risks as outdoor workers report increasing cases of heat illness—doctors have noted more emergency room visits and postal workers asked for more breaks and air-conditioned vehicles.
Health officials urge people to drink water and watch for signs of heat sickness while Dallas County rolls out a free AC window unit program for vulnerable residents.
