- ➤ Today, as temperatures hit 100 degrees, The Salvation Army of North Texas opened 10 cooling and hydration stations in Dallas, Denton, Collin, Ellis and Tarrant counties—designed to help vulnerable neighbors with water, shelter, food and utility support. - ➤ County officials unanimously voted on July 28 to place on the November 4 ballot a proposal to create an emergency services district for rural areas facing loss of fire protection. If approved, the new property tax—capped at 10 cents per $100 of property value—could raise up to $9.6 million and may leave some areas with a temporary gap in services. The Dallas Morning News
