GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County officials unanimously voted on July 28 to place on the November 4 ballot a proposal to create an emergency services district for rural areas facing loss of fire protection. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Children in Plano face serious heat risks because they heat up fast and might not see early signs of illness, Dr. Troy Smurawa from Children’s Health explained. He advised parents to plan outdoor time in the cooler hours and keep kids hydrated — their bodies heat up quickly — and let them slowly get used to the heat — this gradual start can help prevent dangerous illness. The Dallas Morning News
- ➤ North Texans are facing rising heat-related health risks as outdoor workers report increasing cases of heat illness—doctors have noted more emergency room visits and postal workers asked for more breaks and air-conditioned vehicles. Health officials urge people to drink water and watch for signs of heat sickness while Dallas County rolls out a free AC window unit program for vulnerable residents. NBC DFW
