  • Plano residents voiced strong support on Dec. 8 for converting three closed school campuses into parks and community spaces—rather than building new housing developments. The feedback was presented to the City Council to guide future community planning.  Plano Star Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Green Vine Market opened in Plano during the pandemic by founder Nedal Hammad, and now his children run the Mediterranean specialty supermarket, working 60 to 70 hours weekly (honoring his vision).  Plano Star Courier
  • Zipline is expanding its drone delivery service across 19 DFW cities, making 1,000 deliveries each day as it uses advanced safety features (including parachutes) to maintain secure operations amid FAA reviews of other firms.  FOX 4 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Plano Public Library offers December events including NASA’s Lucy Mission event today at Davis Library at 6:30 p.m. and a bag sale at Haggard Library until Dec. 14; a countdown celebration on Dec. 31, puppet shows for young children, and creative art workshops round out the in-person & virtual lineup.  Plano Magazine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DART staff is evaluating service changes if cities withdraw, which would close Plano's three light rail stations and alter bus routes starting shortly after May 2nd. Public hearings will be scheduled between January and March to notify residents—this planning could impact regional transit.  KERA

SPORTS NEWS

  • FIFA announced that North Texas will host nine group stage matches at AT&T Stadium — soon to be renamed Dallas Stadium — and the committee said teams like Argentina will choose base camps in early spring.  FOX 4 News
  • The Plano West cheer teams earned a spot at nationals after winning their regional contest; they will compete at the Universal Cheerleaders Association National Tournament on Feb. 26 in Orlando.  Plano Magazine
