Good morning, Plano.

North Texas will light up this holiday season with 29 festive displays offering parades, drive-thru tours and choreographed shows across Dallas, Frisco and Plano.

Local families in Plano will enjoy events like Deerfield Christmas Lights at Heritage Farmstead Museum—free for some and ticketed for others—that run into early January.

Restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area closed this fall due to an industry slowdown that forced 48 locations—including drive-through chains and Starbucks stores—to shut their doors, raising concerns among owners.

In Plano, closures at a Kona Grill and a Starbucks have added to the local economic challenges as consumer spending remains weak.

North Texas is preparing for the FIFA World Cup in seven months and is expected to see nearly $2 billion in economic boost (including Plano).

Restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth will offer 22 Veterans Day deals on Nov 11 for active-duty military and veterans, with some restaurants also extending offers to family members and featuring free coffee, desserts and discounted meals.

The local national cemetery's Veterans Day program was cancelled (due to a government shutdown), affecting community support for veterans.

Greg Riddle of the Dallas Morning News released his preseason girls basketball rankings that list top area teams like Lancaster and Plano East — which has top recruit Arianna Robinson — as they gear up for the upcoming season.

The rankings reflect each program's recent successes and new talent additions ahead of the new season.

Dallas area high school football teams will play important games this week to decide playoff spots.

Some teams have already earned a berth while others must win to overcome tie-breakers — the final playoff picture will be clear after these matchups.
