COMMUNITY NEWS

  • As the government shutdown continues, North Texans face rising concerns that SNAP benefits will end—food banks, nonprofits, churches and restaurants are stepping in with food pantries, mobile distributions and donation drives to support families in need. Community groups have set specific schedules for assistance, including Concord Church’s distribution today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Dallas College pantries operating on Fridays.  NBC DFW
  • North Texas Wildlife Center has found a new home in Plano after the city said it must leave its residential area four months ago—Rebecca Hamlin said the center will renovate the new facility and complete the move by Feb. 1, 2026.  FOX 4 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Plano singer Lauren Moore, a co-founder of Catholic Music Initiative, battled Guillain—Barré syndrome after a severe bout with the flu and endured months of hospital care and intensive rehab; she will return to the stage on November 4 at The Meyerson Symphony Center to mark her remarkable comeback.  NBC DFW

  • Two Plano East seniors, Ananya Nagendra and Kareem Hassanien, were named 2026 Coca-Cola Scholars semifinalists from over 107,000 applicants—showing a competitive 1.12% success rate.  Plano Star Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Dallas Stars are studying a 107-acre mall site in Plano for a future hockey arena; if they leave the American Airlines Center when their lease expires in 2031, construction could start in 2028 or 2029 to be ready for the 2031—32 season. The Shops at Willow Bend faces redevelopment challenges as major stores close and local officials evaluate transit plans for the area.  The Dallas Morning News
