BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Vegan Vibrationz, a Plano restaurant known for its vegan twist on fast food, won a Compassionate Business Award from PETA for being the first vendor at State Fair of Texas to serve only vegan food — the Cole brothers will receive a framed certificate and vegan chocolates and visitors can enjoy their menu at the booth until October 19th. The restaurant began at the Dallas Farmers Market in 2018 and opened its Legacy Hall location in 2023. Plano Magazine

- ➤ Plano Magazine marks its 10th anniversary by hosting a block party at McCall Plaza in Historic Downtown Plano on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 2 to 6 p.m.—attendees can enjoy local restaurant offerings, art group performances, community booths, cocktails, light bites, raffle prizes and a youth art contest for the Jan/Feb issue. - ➤ The death of Charlie Kirk spurred many to return to church, and Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano saw a 10% rise in attendance as local youth and others seek comfort and hope. Church leaders note that this surge could mark a generational change—though it is too soon to say if the trend will last. The Dallas Morning News

- ➤ Plano ISD hired Ryan Patrick for an independent audit to review antisemitism complaints—this review will examine district policies and responses to the allegations. Plano Star Courier
- ➤ Plano ISD closed Murphy Middle School out of an abundance of caution after tests found mold and high humidity—an alternate learning plan begins today while cleaning efforts replace carpets, clean HVAC systems, and reseal windows. The Dallas Morning News
- ➤ Matthew Kuo, a Plano middle schooler, was named one of 30 finalists in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge and will go to Washington, D.C. later this month to compete for thousands of dollars in science awards. His project Factors Affecting Fuel Cell Energy Efficiency compares wind turbine and battery energy for a fuel cell — showing his love for science and medicine. Plano Magazine

- ➤ Former mayor Harry LaRosiliere will receive the Key to the City on Oct. 9 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Senator Florence Shapiro Council Chambers at 1520 K Avenue — the ceremony, hosted by Mayor John Muns, will feature remarks from Bruce Glasscock and Toyota Motor North America exec Chris Reynolds with a reception to follow in the City Hall lobby. - ➤ Moon Duchin testified at a federal hearing in El Paso on Monday that race was used in Texas redistricting—he said the new map may dilute minority votes in Dallas suburbs and could force a reversion to older boundaries for the 2026 election if ruled illegal. The Dallas Morning News
