  • Heroes on the Water is working to raise $50,000 during North Texas Giving Day to open three to four new chapters across Dallas-Fort Worth — Executive Director Neil Mullaney said the effort will boost access to local programs.  Plano Star Courier
  • Plano will host the annual Balloon Festival at Oak Point Park from Sept. 18-21 with balloon glows at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and balloon launches at 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday—families can enjoy rides, food and local vendors with discounted tickets available.  NBC DFW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Plano are advised to check if their vehicles are under recall by using the instructions provided by manufacturers and state agencies since repairs are free—loaner cars may require a fee to use. HEALTH NEWS

  • Collin County Animal Services paused dog adoptions due to a possible disease outbreak—staff have not yet disclosed which disease is involved or when dog adoptions will resume, while cat adoptions remain available and further guidance will be sent via email.  The Dallas Morning News
