EDUCATION NEWS

  • Plano seniors have excelled in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship program — 6,930 awards valued at nearly $26 million are available to top-performing students.  Plano Star Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Texas Gov. Abbott signed a law that bans the business structure behind EPIC City, a planned development linked to the East Plano Islamic Center, over concerns it could impose religious rules. The law, which went into effect on Sept. 1, requires business entities to tell buyers they are purchasing an interest in a business instead of a residential property—ensuring adherence to Texas law.  The Dallas Morning News
  • Officials announced that the 26-mile Silver Line, which will connect seven cities from Plano to DFW airport, is scheduled to open on Oct. 25. The transit agency will offer free rides for the first two weeks even as it reduces service in other areas—DART CEO Nadine Lee said the new line will help meet growing regional travel demands.  FOX 4 News
