COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Early donation links have been opened for North Texas Giving Day, the nation’s largest community-wide giving event that brings together nearly 3,600 organizations in its 17th year. Donations in Plano will be accepted online until midnight on September 18, and sponsors pay all fees so every gift goes directly to nonprofits — fueling local support.  NBC DFW
  • Plain-O Helpers, a volunteer group in Plano, helped Peggy Plaisted and other seniors with free home repairs on Friday morning—ensuring they can stay in their homes despite limited incomes. The retired volunteers meet weekly to fix issues like broken fences and install safety features while accepting donations for supplies.  The Dallas Morning News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pantera, led by Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown, will perform at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.—its first D-FW show since it split in 2003. The band will honor the late Abbott brothers with a video tribute as it launches its controversial new lineup.  KERA
  • Plano residents have many September events, including Lionel Bart’s Oliver! running from Sept 4—7 at Courtyard Theater, a water lantern festival on Sept 6 at Haggard Park, and the Plano Balloon Festival from Sept 18—21 at Oak Point. Additional activities feature an international trade fair on Sept 12 at the Plano Event Center, a body fitness run on Sept 20 at Windhaven Meadows Park, and a family-friendly fall festival on Sept 28 in Downtown Plano.  Plano Magazine
  • Plano resident and Hockaday School graduate Emily McShane received national acclaim after her animated film Crushed—about a queer teen facing rejection—won the Emerging Artist award at the All-American High School Film Festival last October; she uses her art to give voice to underrepresented stories.  Plano Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas AG Ken Paxton sent a letter on Thursday asking Plano ISD for documents about reports of antisemitic and anti-Israel remarks and biased teaching materials — he said any teacher or staff facilitating these actions should be disciplined. Lawmakers and parents have urged clear steps as the probe will review disciplinary records and investigations.  The Dallas Morning News
