CULTURE NEWS

  • Plano native Paakow Essandoh's streetwear brand Mizizi, known for its African-inspired jerseys, is marking its 10th anniversary with a Dallas homecoming event. The celebration will take place on Aug. 30 at BluPrint in downtown Dallas — featuring exclusive products and live music from DJ Rocket and DJ Hitlist.  KERA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas House passed SB 12—allowing the attorney general to independently prosecute election crimes—on Tuesday, reversing a four-year-old ruling that required local prosecutor agreement. The bill now goes to Gov. Abbott’s desk and may change how voter fraud cases are handled.  KERA
  • The Plano City Council approved three ordinances today that align local rules with state-level housing restrictions. The measures update how new housing developments are reviewed to match state law.  Plano Star Courier
  • DART board voted Tuesday to delay approving bus and light rail service changes until Sept. 9 so cities can understand the impact and approved raising fares from $3 to $4 for single-ride tickets for next year—Plano director Ricciardelli said he would review low-ridership routes to better match spending with use.  KERA

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Starting Sept. 1, Senate Bill 17 will bar people or companies tied to China, Iran, North Korea or Russia from buying most real estate, including farmland, homes and commercial property. The law faces legal challenges and may impose jail time and fines + its future implementation is under appeal in court.  KERA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Plano and Permian, once great Texas high school football programs, will meet at noon Saturday at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco—this is their sixth bout in a storied rivalry known for past state semifinal wins that shaped Texas football.
