CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Venezuelan man accused of a Russian roulette—style attack on a woman in February 2021 was arrested in Plano on Aug. 14 after a tip from U.S. Border Patrol led ICE and local authorities to locate him, and he remains in custody pending immigration proceedings. FOX 4 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Plano city leaders will vote on September 8 on a $788M spending plan that keeps the tax rate at 41.76 cents per $100 while funding repairs for aging roads and services — rising property values are expected to boost tax revenue by about $9.8M. The Dallas Morning News
- ➤ A federal judge blocked 11 Texas school districts, including Plano ISD, from enforcing a law that would require classrooms to display the Ten Commandments, saying it violates the First Amendment. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said other districts must follow the law and that he will appeal the ruling+school officials now wait for further court instructions. FOX 4 News
- ➤ At a Monday meeting, Collin County commissioners approved the fiscal year 2026 budget that keeps the tax rate unchanged while shifting jail staffing with new and reduced positions. Sheriff Jim Skinner warned that the planned reorganization to combat overtime could make the jail more dangerous — a claim that has stirred debate among local officials and drew criticism from Rep.
