CRIME NEWS

  • Plano police arrested five suspects who stole 29 cars—mainly Camaros and Corvettes valued at $1.1 million—from parking lots in a dozen cities and posted videos on Instagram before selling them.  NBC DFW
  • Plano police investigated a shooting at the Collin College campus Sunday night—one man was injured, a suspect was detained, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, with no ongoing threat to the public.  FOX 4 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Plano ISD Board of Trustees was named one of five Honor School Boards by the Texas Association of School Administrators and will vie for the Top Honor Board award—joining competitors Colorado ISD, Galena Park ISD, Memphis ISD and Temple ISD. The board, first recognized in 2014, is set to be interviewed at txEDCON25 in Houston on September 12th.  Plano Magazine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas legislators passed hundreds of new laws that will go into effect Sept. 1, including school cellphone bans, a mandate to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms, and changes to property taxes and food labels. Lawmakers are now meeting in a special session to review further reforms on redistricting and aid for Central Texas flood victims.  The Dallas Morning News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two North Texans became national champions at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in New Orleans — Rivera won the senior all-around, balance beam, floor exercise, and shared uneven bars gold while Hong earned his second title with the men’s senior all-around win — continuing their Olympic successes from last summer. Rivera trains at WOGA in Plano and Hong began his career here, highlighting local talent on the national stage.  NBC DFW
