Good morning, Plano.

Police said a big rig driver suffered a medical emergency and lost consciousness on Monday when he drove through the intersection of Plano and Miller roads at about 12:25 p.m. — colliding with a DART bus, an 18-wheeler, a box truck and a sedan — which resulted in one death and four injuries.

Plano police arrested a 47-year-old man for unlawful restraint after he reportedly held his wife against her will.

Five North Texas mayors, including Plano's, sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott asking him to add DART funding structure and governance legislation to the special session that began July 21.

Plano City Manager Mark Israelson said the cities want the legislature to offer guidance on House Bill 3187, while DART officials warned that the proposed changes could affect transit service (DART’s board will vote on service cuts on Aug. 26).

Officer Chris Bianez was named Peace Officer of the Year while volunteer Frank Guckes earned Alumni Member of the Year at the Texas Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Awards.

Bianez, who works in the Crime Prevention Unit with nearly 30 years of service, and Guckes, who volunteered 1,813 hours in 2024—both showed strong commitment to Plano’s safety.
