  • Volunteers from East Plano Islamic Center and local churches transformed a gym into an overnight warming shelter last night for more than 160 unhoused residents facing freezing weather — police, paramedics, and community support will keep it open until Tuesday with food, showers, and emergency aid.  The Dallas Morning News
  • North Texas is preparing for a winter storm as local warming centers open to offer temporary shelter from dropping temperatures. In Plano, the Salvation Army is running an overnight warming station (2538 14th Street) to help residents in need.  NBC DFW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • AT&T has prepared all week to keep its network on during the winter storm by deploying hundreds of generators in the Dallas area — a measure to prevent outages from ice on power lines. Incident Commander Ken Smith said customers should report any outages promptly for a quick response.  NBC DFW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A winter storm brought moderate to heavy snow, sleet, and ice to North Texas starting Friday and is forecast to continue until Sunday morning. Public grid operators said conditions remain normal, but residents in Plano should prepare for possible power outages by charging devices, checking supplies, & keeping flashlights handy.  NBC DFW

  • Hospitals and pharmacies in Plano advise residents to refill prescriptions ahead of the weekend winter storm — emergency rooms will remain open for medical care while officials urge caution on icy roads; residents may call 911 if travel proves unsafe.  The Dallas Morning News
